cheryl the potter
Curious about ceramics and pottery as a child and as an adult, any museum visit always left Cheryl wondering what it must be like to create a vessel with earth, two hands and a wheel.
Originally from Philadelphia, PA, she migrated to Austin, TX in 2005. With no formal education in fine arts, she decided to pursue the craft by attending local workshops and instruction under the tutelage of some of the most impressive potters in Texas. She currently practices her skills on the wheel in her studio space at a local pottery studio in Austin.
She most enjoys creating functional pieces like bowls and platters and vases. Much of her work features some form of texture, carving or stamping and her favorite glazes tend toward warm earthy colors. Most of the work featured in her portfolio is thrown using high fire light bodied clays like white stoneware and b-mix and all work is fired to cone 10 in a gas kiln. Custom requests are welcomed as her schedule permits.
Cheryl is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, working professionally as a Communication and Marketing executive in the tech industry. In addition to pottery and her career, she indulges her writing itch by blogging at apotterspen. Her other interests include gadgets, social media, Am/Staff Pit Bull terrier advocacy, cultivating a green thumb, painting, travel, music and the "social science" of people, metaphysics and interpersonal connectedness. Sibbotery is a manifestation of her creative pursuits and spiritual inspiration.
